This loan will support the expansion of Watch Kakis (“kakis” colloquially means “buddies” or “friends” in local context), a community-based 24/7 home monitoring programme designed to enhance the safety and well-being of seniors especially those living alone.

TribeApp is a Singapore-based technology start-up, incorporated in 2017, dedicated to revolutionizing the health and wellness space with innovative, transformative solutions. With over 15 years of experience, TribeApp’s leadership team has a proven track record, having pioneered the Smart Elderly Monitoring and Alert System (SEMAS) for Singapore’s Housing Development Board in 2014 and contributed to the Singapore Smart Nation Smart Enabled Home Programme in 2016. The company strives to offer secure, holistic, and cost-effective solutions to support individuals and businesses in the health and wellness sector.
This loan of $100,000 USD for 24 months will support the expansion of TribeApp’s community-based 24/7 home monitoring programme, Watch Kakis. The initiative aims to enhance the well-being and safety of an additional 200 beneficiaries, primarily vulnerable seniors who live alone. Through collaborative community support, Watch Kakis ensures that elderly residents are cared for within their homes, allowing them to age with dignity while providing peace of mind to their loved ones.
With Singapore’s rapidly aging population, this initiative aligns with the country’s increasing need for home-based elder care solutions. Statistics reveal that by 2035, approximately one-third of Singapore’s population will be over 65 years old. Rising life expectancy and decreasing fertility rates are intensifying societal challenges, such as social isolation and increased incidents of seniors dying alone. In 2023, at least 37 cases of individuals dying alone were reported in Singapore. This demographic shift highlights the urgency for solutions like Watch Kakis, which fosters a robust community support network.
Borrower's mission
One of TribeApp’s core contributions lies in its collaboration with regional institutional (aged care) providers and active-ageing centers (AACs). TribeApp provides essential home monitoring technology and related technical expertise that, till date, support more than 1,000 seniors. These devices offer real-time alerts, ensuring seniors remain safe while aging in place. While our service provider partners oversee monitoring, responses, and emergency helpline services, TribeApp’s technology serves as the backbone, enabling seamless and reliable home safety monitoring and timely alerts.
TribeApp’s involvement in such home monitoring programmes has driven meaningful outcomes for seniors and their families. Key highlights of the impact include:
– Reaching out more than 1000 Seniors to date: The monitoring devices provided by TribeApp have equipped homes with essential safety technology, ensuring quick detection of potential emergencies or anomalies (activities).
– Peace of Mind for Families and Caregivers: Families of beneficiaries gain reassurance knowing that seniors have access to a safety system. A recent feature in The Straits Times highlights how the home monitoring service allows elderly residents to access help by pressing a button in case of distress or health issues. TribeApp’s technology empowers seniors to age-in-place ensuring their safety, allowing them to age gracefully in a familiar environment.
– Strong Public-Private Collaboration: Through partnerships with institutional care providers like Singapore Red Cross, TribeApp’s Watch Kakis programme, community partners such as Active-Ageing Centers, TribeApp fosters community engagement and social well-being for the seniors.

The loan will have a significant social impact by expanding the Watch Kakis programme to serve additional 200 elderly individuals. The key outcomes of this initiative include: i) Enhanced Safety: 24/7 monitoring and emergency response systems will reduce health risks and provide immediate assistance in crises. (ii) Social Engagement: Regular community check-ins and activities will combat social isolation and promote mental well-being among seniors. (iii) Community Empowerment: Strengthening the collaborative network of “Kakis” (community buddies) will create a sustainable support ecosystem for the elderly. Impact will be measured by monitoring: 1. Response Time: Ensuring seniors receive timely assistance (e.g. when emergency button pressed) 2. Reduction in Isolation Cases: Tracking incidents and direct engagements, reducing if not preventing social isolation. 3. User Satisfaction: Regular feedback from seniors and their families on the services provided
