Sarvaguna Foods & Kitchen

Amount committed of 100,000 AUD target. This loan will be funded as long as it raises between 100,000 AUD and 110,000 AUD.

Sarvaguna Foods & Kitchen began with one belief: every child deserves a safe, nutritious meal. In just a few years they have grown from a small kitchen in Pokhara into a network serving over 9,000 meals every day using ingredients sourced from local farmers, cooked by staff who have been given the opportunity to train in their own Academy. They are now building a landmark Central Kitchen & Processing Facility that will transform how healthy meals reach thousands.

Loan summary

This loan is required to secure the building for the Central Kitchen facility which will allow for expansion and growth of the core business.

This facility is not about Sarvaguna doing anything new, it is enabling it to scale its business for even more impact. Specifically it enables them to hit their goals of:

  1. 6500 local farmers selling their produce to Sarvaguna Foods
  2. 40,000 daily nutritious meals produced for students and community events
  3. 375 new jobs created for young people and women in the hospitality sector
Borrower's mission

Sarvaguna has a simple impact thesis based around the story of a meal :

• A farmer who sells their harvest at a fair price.

• A child who eats a balanced lunch and studies with energy.

• A young apprentice learning not just to cook, but to build a career in food.

The thesis drives their activities which all align with their goals:

  • Purchasing as much produce from local farmers as they can (currently 40%). Having increased storage capacity is a key part of this.
  • Running an academy to train disadvantaged people in the food industry who can then be hired to support Sarvaguna’s expansion.
  • Producing and delivering daily meals to schools to improve the nutrition of children. They have also recently developed a range of nutritious milk drinks which have replaced all soft drinks in the schools they service.

Sarvaguna is successfully executing this thesis and has rapidly grown. The new central facility is the next step in achieving their impact targets.

The activities funded by this loan are helping to achieve the above Sustainable Development Goals as defined by the UN.
