Proven Farm to Fork model now ready to scale

Sarvaguna Foods & Kitchen

Sarvaguna began with one belief: every child deserves a safe, nutritious meal. In just a few years they have grown from a small kitchen in Pokhara into a network serving over 9,000 meals every single day using ingredients sourced from local farmers, cooked by staff who have been given the opportunity to train in their own Academy. They are now building a landmark Central Kitchen & Processing Facility that will transform how healthy meals reach thousands.

Loan summary

This loan is required to secure the building for the Central Kitchen facility which will allow for expansion and growth of the core business.

This facility is not about Sarvaguna doing anything new, it is just enabling it to scale its business for even more impact. Specifically it enables them to:

  1. Buy more produce from local farmers
  2. Produce more nutritious meals for students and community events
  3. Train and employ more young people and women for careers in the hospitality sector.
Borrower's mission

Sarvaguna has a simple impact thesis based around the story of a meal :

• A farmer who sells their harvest at a fair price.

• A child who eats a balanced lunch and studies with energy.

• A young apprentice learning not just to cook, but to build a career in food.

The thesis drives their activities. They purchase as much produce from local farmers as they can (currently 40%), have an academy to train disadvantaged people in the food industry, and produce and deliver daily meals to schools to improve the nutrition of children. They have also recently developed a range of nutritious milk drinks which have replaced all soft drinks in the schools they service.

Sarvaguna is successfully executing this thesis and has rapidly grown. They aim to continue delivering these same goals but on a larger scale to increase their impact.

The activities funded by this loan are helping to achieve the above Sustainable Development Goals as defined by the UN.
