We are happy to share this positive progress update from Sarvaguna Foods & Kitchen, supported by their intermediary Red Hat Impact.
Who are Sarvaguna Foods & Kitchen?
Sarvaguna Foods & Kitchen is a mass catering company established for connecting local farm food to places where masses of people eat, such as school canteens. They started with one private school canteen with 1000 plus students each day with interest from 3 public schools in Pokhara. Even with government support ($0.15 per student per day for mid-day meal in public schools), most schools lack proper cafeteria facilities and linkage to the supply chain to meet the standard of good and nutritious food needed. In this regard, Sarvaguna plays a vital role in delivering good food from its production kitchen by improving the serving cafeteria at those public schools.
Sarvaguna since its inception worked on the circular economy model that connects local farm food to places where masses of people eat food. Sarvaguna has its own processing facility to process local food (grains, spices, vegetables etc.) from a network of our farmers which goes to their own production kitchen facility including a bakery to cook and deliver the healthy and nutritious meal.
Their first loan through LendForGood raised AU$90,000 to develop its mass catering school meal business by (a) setting up its 3 satellite serving cafeteria in 3 public schools, (b) investment in delivery vehicles, and (c) setting up tools, equipment and human resources required for standardised and efficient food delivery. Their second loan through LendForGood AU$54,785 to expand their catering services by purchasing a new vehicle to allow deliveries to more schools, and two grain silos will enable them to buy grain at lower prices during harvest season. This also enables them produce more in-house products like noodles and bread. Buying at the right time ensures guaranteed purchase quantities, providing farmers with revenue stability.

What have Sarvaguna Foods & Kitchen been up to?
Sarvaguna has been delivering on impact for sure!
Sarvaguna Academy: The academy is running smoothly and just completed the exam for the first cohort and are planning to start the second cohort after 2 months.
Catering & Delivery Services: Sarvaguna are planning to enhance the production plan for wheat and other products from this year. The new academic year has started and they’ve kicked off by securing 4 more schools for the delivery service. This last financial year, 103,213 snack boxes were delivered to schools.
Launch Event: Sarvaguna also organised an event launching their new products. The event was wholly handled by their students to contribute towards their project work. And it was a success – most of stakeholders were present! They launched different bakery products, wheat products and drinks; a nod towards their plans to strengthen the production department this year.
